Khost: Khost is one of the 34 provinces of Afghanistan just located in the eastern part of the country next to the Federally Administrated Tribal Areas (FATA). Once upon a time, Khost province was used to be a part of Paktia Province but later it was given the status of the province. Mostly, of the inhabitants of Khost are doing their businesses in the UAE and Saudi Arabia as well as Qatar. Recent surveys show that now the youths are quickly settling in the Europe, Canada and America for a good life and education. The people of Khost are educated and peace lovers and just positioned close to a troublesome area names “Waziristan.”
Now, the social, human rights and political activists ask the government to establish an international university “Bacha Khan” in the areas of social sciences. It is worth mentioning that the people of Khost with the coordination and financial fund of the UAE succeeded in shifting and building the Afghan University from Peshawar, and they named it Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al-Nahya University. The university has mostly natural sciences faculties, 75 faculty members and some 1600 students from different parts of Afghanistan.
The inhabitants of Khost are requesting that the Khost province should be replaced as a ‘Knowledge Village’ and a special attention should be given to the Khost province in establishing a social sciences university due to its geopolitical, strategic and economic significance.
The Afghan Tribune’s correspondent also interview some of the experts regarding establishing Bacha Khan International University of Social Sciences, Mr. Faizullah Ghamkhor, the social and human rights activist replied in a response of a question, “I really appreciate this right of the people of Khost”, he further added, “Khost province has an important location and making geopolitical part of Afghanistan so establishing university of social sciences will not be a wrong step and I should like to emphasise that the government should address the problems of the people of Khost being frontline in the war against terrorism.”
The owner of the Strategic Center for International Relations, Abdulrahman Khan also shared his views with the Afghan Tribune, he states, “The already established university of Khost province has natural sciences faculties and now this is the time to launch a social sciences university, includes faculties of international relations, economics, defense and political sciences as well as human rights and strategic studies.”
Khost province was one of the major provinces as its people voted for both candidates, Ashraf Ghani and Dr. Abdullah Abdullah. Both candidates made promises to the people of Khost, but unfortunately, the feelings of the people of Khost were not seen as warming as these were in the time of election’s campaign.
