Peace Talks: The Dilemma of Reconciliation

Undoubtedly, India plays a vital role in restoring peace in Afghanistan. The common mindset in Afghanistan is in the very first interest of India and Afghanistan strategic friendship. India has contributed in walks of life of Afghanistan while establishing educational institutes, capacity building of the Afghan employees, construction of public institutions and hospitals as well as funding the new established bureaucratic system of Afghanistan.

People in Afghanistan see India all weathers friend and Pakistan responsible state for all worries and terrorist activities. This act not only keeps the religion aside but proves the foresightedness of Afghan people. This fact is proven to the world that India is the truly sympathizer of the Afghan people and that’s why a recent development came into seeing when the United States’ Special Representative for Afghanistan, Richard Olson, met National Security Advisor Ajit Doval Thursday, ahead of a key meeting scheduled for next week of the four-nation group seeking to bring about an end to conflict between Afghanistan and the Taliban, Indian government sources told The Indian Express.

A government official familiar with the talks said their discussion centered on evolving a regional strategy to back the 170,000-strong Afghan army, and halting the possible nefarious involvement of the Afghanistan’s neighboring countries.

Next week’s meeting of the quadrilateral, made up of Afghanistan, Pakistan, China, and the United States, comes among growing pessimism that Islamabad will deliver on long-standing promises to bring the Taliban to the negotiating table — the keystone of the international community’s efforts to end the conflict.

Just few days before Sartaj Aziz, Adviser to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs said that We have some influence over them because their leadership is in Pakistan and they get some medical facilities. Their families are here,” he said. “We can use those levers to pressurize them to say, ‘Come to the table’. But we can’t negotiate on behalf of the Afghan government because we cannot offer them what the Afghan government can offer them.”

The burning question is this that when Pakistan provides safe havens to the insurgents on its soil then why they are enough frail to bring them to the negotiation. Pakistan is the only responsible element providing shelter to terrorists, and international war worriers on its soil while disturbing the regional security and integration.

Pakistan should understand that they are enough weak to defend itself against ISIS and from the 53 fractions of Taliban. Pakistan as a nuclear power state should sketch a strategy to ban the terrorist organizations’ activities and all the funding from the national and international Islamic fundamentalists.

The world is not in the position to afford more attacks like 9/11, Shah Shahid, Bacha Khan University, attacks on the Christian community in Lahore and Paris and Brussels.

This is in the utmost interest of Pakistan to facilitate, support and implement the vision of President Ghani for the prosperity, economic stability and strategic success of the region.
