Henry Cavill Steps into the Immortal Arena: First Look at the Highlander Reboot

The Highlander reboot has finally kicked into gear, and Henry Cavill delivered the first real look at his version of Connor MacLeod. Cavill posted two pics on Instagram showing himself in character.

Directed by Chad Stahelski, the man behind the John Wick series, the film brings Cavill into high-stakes action sci-fi fantasy after his time in The Witcher and as Superman. Principal photography began in Scotland on January 28, 2026, after a delay from Cavill's leg injury during pre-production rehearsals in 2025.

Russell Crowe (who played Cavill's dad as Superman, Jor-El) plays the mentor Ramírez (Sean Connery played in the original), Dave Bautista (Guardians of the Galaxy) takes on the brutal villain Kurgan, and other cast members include Marisa Abela, Karen Gillan (Guardians of the Galaxy), Djimon Hounsou, and Jeremy Irons (Alfred in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League). A cast of superhero types will now be filling out the world of Highlander, and that just might work really well.

The film follows Connor MacLeod, a 16th-century Scottish warrior who learns he is one of many immortals fighting until only one survives to claim the “Prize.”

The reboot keeps the original's rules: immortals can only be killed by decapitation, and the Gathering brings them together through an unknown force. Stahelski has said it may serve as a prequel and could lead to sequels.

No official release date has been set, but Amazon MGM Studios, backing the project through United Artists, eyes 2027 after the $100 million-plus budget and production push. Cavill has called it a “dream project” since his attachment in 2021.
